Attacking

To win the game you have to have the highest possible score at the end of the round. To have the highest score you will likely need a strong economy. To have a strong economy you will need lots of land and ocean. It is entirely possible to do this without ever sending a fleet out to attack, you could always just explore new land and ocean. However this method is generally much more expensive, and no where near as fun as crushing your enemies. There are some rules on who you can attack. You cannot attack anyone greater then twice your score. You cannot attack anyone less then 75% of your score, there is one exception to this rule, but we will discuss that later. The easiest way to find out who you can attack is to go to the Rankings page, anyone who is inside your attack range will have a little red cross hair to the right of their name.

To attack another player first you must decide who to attack. The easiest way to do this is to go to the rankings page and find a player who's score is lower then yours and click the cross hair next to their score. This will take you to the "Attack" page, the players name will automatically be entered into the "Target" box. You could always skip the rankings page step and just type in the captains name if you already know who you want to attack. Decide how many ships you want to send on the attack. Most people send all their ships, this may not always be the best strategy however. When you are ready click "Send this Attack".

There are some things you should take into account before you send your fleet to destroy your target. When you attack a player, you automatically declare conflict on them when your fleet hits. This allows that player, and their ally (if they have one) to hit you, and your ally (if you have one) for 48 ticks (hour). The 75% limit no longer applies (it is lowered to 50%, this is the exception mentioned earlier.) So before you send your fleet check who your target is allied with, is that ally much stronger then you? Is your ally going to get slaughtered for your careless attacks?

When you send your fleet to attack your target, your ships will be making the trip to your target for the next 4 ticks(hours). You will not be able to use them to defend your home, and you will be vulnerable to attack. On the 4th tick, your fleet will hit your target, and will instantly be returned home. How very convenient eh?
